Hardware
A Pentium or higher PC (Celeron acceptable) or comparable Macintosh (G-3, G-4, G-5, Intel acceptable) with color monitor and the following:

Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/Vista with 128 MB of ram and a 56 kps modem or better
or
Mac OS 9 or X with 128 MB of ram and a 56 kps modem or better

Software
PC: Netscape 4.0 or better / Internet Explorer 5.0 or better / Mozilla Firefox

Mac: Since Microsoft dropped developing Internet Explorer for the Mac, it does not properly support modern Web standards.


* An email composing application which can send and receive attachments (such as Outlook Express, Entourage, Eudora, Netscape Mail, AOL, Hotmail, etc.)

* World Wide Web access and a valid, accessible email address

Although not required, a printer may be helpful to read course readings offline at your own time. These are the minimum requirements. We recommend that you use the latest Web browsers (no beta versions or modified browser versions please), and use a fast processor to access pages more efficiently.

Shockwave plugin
This course uses Shockwave/Flash Player. If you know you don't have Shockwave, then you should download Shockwave directly. If you don't have the proper version of Shockwave installed, you will be prompted to install it (see instructions or you can go to the Macromedia download page. If you can see and use the button below, then shockwave is installed.

Browser settings
For the courses to run smoothly you have to set your browser to accept Cookies and make sure that JavaScript is enabled. On most browsers these are the default settings, but to make sure your browser is set correctly click here for instructions.

Quicktime
Several pages utilize short streaming video. Quicktime is needed to play this video, and it can be downloaded for free by going to the Apple Quicktime download page.

Acrobat
Assignments are in Adobe Acrobat format. You will need the free Acrobat Reader to access them. Download it by clicking on the image below.
